Are you getting your hair cut by a barber? First, You probably already know that you should tip your barber but if you don’t, check out our Guide to Tipping Barbers, which covers barber tipping etiquette. While it adds to the cost of a haircut, barbers expect tips, plus it’s a nice thing to do.
Now that’s out of the way, how do you calculate how much to tip the barber? That’s where we come in with our easy-to-use barber tip calculator.
Use our Barber Tip Calculator
For our tip calculator’s default settings, we will use a haircut cost of $20, which we know is twice as high in some places but half as much as in others. You can easily adjust how much your own barber charges to cut your hair.
Here we use an example of a $20 haircut with a 15% tip which gives a tip total of $3. You can set both the tip percentage and your haircut bill amount yourself in our tip calculator for haircuts. If it’s the holidays and you’d like to leave your favorite barber a tip, we’ve included that option too. Holiday tips are typically the cost of one haircut.

Quick recap: How much should you tip your barber?
The general rule of thumb is to tip barbers 15 to 20 percent of the total amount of the haircut cost.
Tipping your barber is considered a common courtesy, is a nice way to show appreciation for the quality of service, and makes up a large part of your barber’s income.
Feel free to change the standard tip amount if your haircut was exceptional (or none if it was bad). Gone are the days when tipping 10 percent was the norm in the United States.
